Having contracted intra-uterine Cytomegalic Virus (CMV) and having the upper spinal deformities to prove it, unrecognised Chronic Fatigue Sydnrome took hold of my body at age four. After schooling and an attempted work career that went up and down all over the place (something is seriously wrong when you keep a mattress rolled up under the office desk), I was finally referred to a doctor (in 2000) who had a good patient following for CFS and related issues. Her first prescription was for Alprazolam (Kalma, Xanax), which has had some very strange side-effects: I started developing facial and hair and growth in other areas, testosterone rose to minimum/normal, and along with some carefully chosen nutritional supplements I enjoyed approximately 3 months of real life! After I had seen her for a few weeks, I learned that she was in trouble with the Medical Board because of over-servicing in pathology. Which is cheaper: 10 doctors doing the same set of 10 tests and finding nothing, or one doctor ordering 30 tests and giving you an answer? Despite my best offers to help in a Legal capacity, she declined and was subsequently deregistered, so I have no access to how the long-term treatment would have proceeded. The recommended supplement is no longer on the market, and how do I know which of the 52 ingredients are the ones relevant to me? Another interesting "side effect" is that in the last decade as a "fully formed adult" I have grown from 5'8" to 5'10". Combining that with the testosterone levels, body hair, sudden lack of uncontrollable body odor and many other irritating symtoms, it becomes clear to me that my body never completed puberty and while poking around in the dark trying to reconstruct this doctor's research, maybe by the time I'm in a nursing home puberty will have been completed.
