I graduated from Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University, Bratislava in 1972. I am currently working as an Assistant Professor and Consultant in Internal Medicine, Hepatology, Rheumatology, Clinical Immunology and Allergology in the I.st Department of Internal Medicine, University Hospital, Slovak Medical University, Bratislava, Slovakia. My main professional and research inerests include, metabolic syndrome, drug induced liver injury, management and treatment of viral hepatitis , food allergy, hygienic theory of allergy and autoimmune diseases, personalised nutrition, epigenetics, paleolithic nutrition, celiac disease and related gluten (lectin) associated diseases, including diseases associated with “leaky gut syndrome”, anti-aging, scientific aspects of “alternative medicine” including placebo effect, randomized clinical trials, alternative nutrition, phytotherapy, the role of neurogenic inflammation in traditional “counter irritation” methods” such as acupuncture. I have published over one hundred scientific papers in local and prestigious international journals. I am a Regional Expert for Rheumatology and a member of American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD).
I am a big proponent of a Paleolithic Diet and Paleo Lifestyle but I prefere pescetarianistic and K. Milton´s herbivorous type paleo, instead of L.Cordain´s type which is too much carnivorous and anti-milk. In my medical praxis I use modified Mercola´s nutritional typing test combined with Ayurveda typing complemented with markers of carbohydrate, lipid and calcium/phosphate metabolism, markers of general nutrition (including albumin, feritin, Fe, vitamin B12, vitamin D levels etc. ), tests for „leaky gut syndrome), serological tests for gluten related disorders and biochemical and urine analysis (based on urine pH, urinary calcium and phosphate excretion ) and microscopic and chemical analysis of urine crystals. In the near future I plan to use personalised nutrition testing based on genome testing. Based on recent advances in molecular biology and epigenetics, I believe that genome testing could make dietary interventions for prevention of disease of affluence possible.
